Crawl Space Vent

We now know that venting a crawl space is a bad idea. By letting in outside air we decrease our home's energy efficiency - we increase our heating bills in the winter, increase our cooling bills in the summer, and actually let more moisture into our homes.

Old crawl space thinking said that vents were needed in a dirt crawl space, and many state's housing codes still require this. However, once the dirt crawl space is sealed with the CleanSpace crawl space encapsulation system, the vents can be closed.

Why crawl space vents don't work

Old crawl space thinking said that air would blow in a vent on one side of a house and blow out of the vent on the other side. But we now know that a house works like a chimney, sucking air in at the lower levels, including in through all of the open crawl space vents, and then this air rises up into the house and escapes out of the upper levels.

This rising air brings with it everything that's in your crawl space, including humidity, musty odors, and mold spores, up into your living space. A crawl space fan or crawl space power fan makes this mold, moisture, and energy situation worse - fast! Sealing and conditioning your crawl space makes this air cleaner and healthier.

Crawl Space Vent Cover

Along with the CleanSpace encapsulation system, Basement Systems' crawl space vent covers provide a clean and easy way to save money on your energy bills, keep excess moisture out of your crawl space, and create a healthier environment for your family.

By encapsulating the crawl space with the CleanSpace system, we can close our crawlspace vents for good.

CleanSpace Vent Covers go over the old, corroded, unsightly vents for a nice clean looking finish. These crawl space vent covers are durable plastic, so they'll never rust, rot, or need paint. The crawlspace vent covers have a foam insulation and gasket material on the inside to seal off the outside air completely. And they come in three different colors to match your home's foundation.
