Ethan Giles

I started in residential construction when I was 18 as a roofer. Since then I've worked on almost every stage of the home-building process at one point or another. Most recently I worked as an inspector/technician for construction aggregates and concrete at Anchorage Sand and Gravel. I'm passionate about using advanced techniques and solid science to build structures that will not only stand the test of time, but be pleasant to live and work in as well.

For my work as an inspector I was certified by the American Concrete Institute to test concrete according to the highest national standards. I also earned my certification from the Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction (WAQTC) to test aggregates and substrate materials according to the standards of the DOT.

My work day involves driving all across the greater Anchorage area meeting with homeowners who want to solve problems related to their basements or crawlspaces. Typically I'll have 2-3 appointments per day, and for each appointment I conduct a careful inspection of the area complete with drawings and measurements. After that I sit down with the potential client and give a detailed proposal of my recommendations for solving their problem in the most effective and convenient way possible.

I love my work because it involves visiting people all over the state, having conversations with them, and solving problems which are causing them a lot of stress. I've been called a bit of a construction nerd, but I genuinely love educating people about what is causing their problem and how we can work together to fix it.

In my free time my wife and I are usually pretty involved in local theater, which is a passion we have both shared since before we were married. I need to engage my creative side in order to keep a balanced life. Over the years we have made connections with so many talented artists here in Alaska telling beautiful and important stories, and we will never stop working to encourage and support community expression.
