Leaky Crawlspace Affecting the Home

Many homeowners think that because their home was built on a dirt crawl space that it will not negatively impact the rest of the structure. The experts at Lowcountry Foundation Repair know differently and have seen the signs and solutions to crawlspace moisture problems. Humidity and standing water in the crawlspace will eventually evaporate into the air and create a moist air environment, causing the floor joists to begin rotting, grow mold, and sink over time into the soft soil. One of the most common indications of a moisture problem in the crawlspace is falling insulation because once moisture soaks the insulation, it falls or holds water against the wood. By adding a CleanSpace® Crawl Space Vapor Barrier System, the crawl space can be sealed off from environmental moisture & humidity, keeping the crawlspace dry. As an added benefit, the vapor barrier also seals the below-grade space, transforming it into a clean and secure storage space!

Spray Foam Insulation Falling Down in Crawl Space

This home in Hilton Head Island, SC had severe humidity in the crawlspace contributing to an issue with the floor. The subfloor had been newly installed and insulated with spray foam a year ago. Within a year, the wood moisture levels had risen so much that spray foam was falling off of the wood in some areas in the crawl space. The true problem was the moisture coming through the walls and ground into the crawlspace, raising the humidity extensively. The humidity level was measured at just above 80%. Our inspector recommended having the CleanSpace Encapsulation System installed to solve the problem. Our team installed the system, effectively sealing out the moisture, and monitoring & controlling the humidity level to protect the floor.
