As a result of heavy rains, my basement floods from ground water. The water is seeping in through the outside brick,is running downhill, and and then pools against the concrete wall in the basement ends and then seeps through the concrete and linoleum flooring, causing the basement to flood. I need a determination of whether there is any mold and mildew caused by the flooding and whether the carpet and padding, although now dry, need to be pulled out. I also need a determination of whether a french drain, application of sealant to the brick and flooring, and/or other waterproofing is best to prevent further flooding.

During prolonged, heavy rains my basement floods due to ground water being trapped by an outside retaining wall. I believe the water runs between the basement wall and the brick veneer and enters the basement where the concrete wall ends and framing begins, which is where the retaining wall is located. Repair will require digging behind the wall, sealing off where the water is entering the house and backfilling the wall with drainage rock to divert water away from house.
