Flooded basement: With summer rainfall and winter snow, Vermont homes can be exposed to serious flooding issues. When flooding hits your area, your basement is most likely to be the prime target for water damage.
Other wet basement signs: There are many possible sources for pooling water, damp basement walls or flooring, and high humidity. These include: rusty basement windows, poor grading around the foundation, leaks through cracks in the foundation, saturated soils, simple plumbing failures, and poorly functioning drainage or sump pump systems. A basement already musty and damp is ill-prepared for the next bad rainstorm! Basement waterproofing can address the underlying issues, prevent future water damage and improve the indoor air quality.

Comment: Our small basement recently flooded after a storm that we learned dropped over 2.5 inches of rain in a short amount of time. We're not sure what happened - we have a sump pump, which is old, but after we pumped water out and plugged the pump back in, it kicked in. So we're not sure if it became overwhelmed, or if the float stuck... or? We'd like to look at getting a new pump with battery backup, and discuss options. Thanks!

Comment: We have an ~1100 sqft walk-out unfinished basement that has flooded several times over the past 13 years we've owned the home. Last and most severely this July with hurricane Beryl (about 7" of standing water). Likely looking for a remediation system (sump/drain) to prevent this from happening again, the waters appear to come from up from the floor when the water table gets too saturated after extreme events. 3/4 walls are underground. Home built into a ledge, which continues uphill behind the house a ways (pictures of front/back). In front picture, what looks like the ground floor is the walk-out basement.
