Comment: I have a 100+ year old house. about 4 years ago the house was completely gutted and rehabbed. Our basement is more of a cellar and can be accessed through the floor of the sun room. We are not 100% sure what the problem is exactly but our basement smells VERY damp and had an inch of standing water about a week ago on one side where it seems to be the lowest point of the floor. we have eliminated the possibility of the washing machine (which is located above the area of the water), the toilet and sink in the bathroom above the area with water and then the water heater which is in the basement where the water issue is. I think it may be coming in from a stone and mortar outside foundation wall near the entrance to the basement. Not sure what to do or who to call but could use an expert opinion on what needs to be done.
