Ohio Crawl Space Repair Contractors

A case study was conducted in Ohio to evaluate the performance of conditioned crawl spaces: three conditioned crawl spaces were constructed in Ohio (one in Cleveland, two in Columbus) and they were monitored over a twelve-month period.

The study shows that the differences between the crawl spaces that are “actively” conditioned versus the crawl space that is “passively” conditioned are quite significant. Active conditioning in crawl spaces does a much better job in terms of controlling the relative humidity and indoor temperature.

A dirt, vented or unconditioned concrete crawl space under a home is a very bad idea. The crawl space air is cold in winter and hot summer. It is in your building envelope and gets upstairs in one of two ways - the stack effect, or the HVAC system through your ducts. If your crawl space is vented, those vents let hot, wet, or cold air in, making your floors cold upstairs in winter and hot in summer.

In addition, the earth has very high humidity in the soil and the moist air and everything in your crawl space can be sucked up into the living areas of the home. Mold spores, odors, humidity and critters create a very unhealthy environment for people. Many people are allergic to these things, and experience a host of symptoms and don't realize that their dirt crawl space is affecting their health.

The final decision was made easy because Mitch did an excellent job in explaining the process and the project, and outlining the costs and scope. This experience has been well worth it! After a very heavy few days of rain in the spring, we called Wes about waterproofing our basement, instantly got a quote and then were on the books for repair. Brent and his crew installed the system during another set of heavy rain days and it has been a huge relief to not see water again. The crew was professional, efficient, and updated us with each step. At the end, they reviewed the system, cleaned everything up, and asked if there was anything else we needed. It has been a relief to know that we will no longer have water in our basement! I would highly recommend Mid-State Basement Systems to anyone who dreams of a dry basement! Wes was so incredibly helpful and accommodating from start to finish. He called us throughout the process to keep us updated and worked with us when another contractor didn't come through for our demolition. He came to our house on the first day to check in with the crew and make sure we were educated on what was happening and asked if we had any questions. Him and the crew even came up with some solutions to move a few other things that would make our remodel more aesthetically appealing! He checked in upon completion to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction and has said he will be available if we need anything else in the future. Brent & the crew were professional, efficient, and updated us with each step. They were very kind and respectful of keeping our floors clean as they were coming in and out in the pouring rain, vacuuming up the dust before leaving each day, and then fully reviewing the system with us before finishing.

We met with several companies and were most impressed with John both in how he presented the material, handled questions about other companies, and the product he showed us. He also seemed to listen well to our questions and made it a point to explain things. Nick, Nate, and Joey were the team members that actually fixed our basement. We had walls that were bowing, some water in the basement, and we thought one corner of the house was sinking. In the end, some of the original plan was changed once we had things cleared out. Mike Pruitt and his co-Forman Cody Bradley and his team did a wonderful job stabilizing two of my basement walls, installing their waterproofing system, and a complete new sump pump, plumbing, and battery backup system. We just bought this 1000 sq/ft fixer upper built in 1935. There is an addition that has a concrete cellar, and from there we can see the dirt crawlspace under the original part of the house. It appears to be pretty dry, but the house smells musty so there may be a need for a moisture barrier in the crawlspace. The cellar under the addition has a few points of moisture intrusion, the major one being the through the exterior entrance where the doors need to be replaced and properly sealed.
