Downspout extensions make a good addition to a basement waterproofing system. Clean gutters and open downspouts will direct a great deal of the water that would otherwise end up in the foundation safely away from the foundation backfilled soil and running downhill from the home. This will allow your gutters downspout to extend far enough away from your home so water does not puddle up against foundation. Unfortunately, many downspouts do not bring the water from the gutters far enough away from the home, and it ends up entering the soil around the foundation.
To combat this, many homeowners will add a pipe or track for the water called a downspot extension . These additions help move the water father away from the home, but they also add an unsightly eyesore and tripping hazard to the yard. Lawnmowers are forced to work their way around them, and they generally create a nuisance around the home. And when homeowners bury the pipes, they tend to clog with leaves, acorns, and other debris, and they need a pitch to drain properly to the edge of the yard.See also: LawnScape, RainChute
