I am looking for some help diagnosing the problem with water getting into my basement. We have been at this house for about a year and whenever it downpours we seem to have water leak in somewhere in the basement. Instead of it leaking in through the foundation walls it looks to be running through the floorboards and making its way to a low point and dripping from there. It's a hard thing to describe unless you are witnessing it while it is raining.

This past summer I had pulled shrubs out from a flower bed along my garage wall that meets at the front walk to the door. One of these shrubs was rather big and was right next to this front walk. Recently I have noticed that after either hard rains or longer rain storms that I seem to be getting water in the basement. Its not flooding the entire basement but along the wall and about 6 feet in gets to be a sizable puddle. My guess is that pulling out the shrub had freed up enough space to allow more water to be soaked into the ground along the foundation. I had recently tried to somewhat grade the soil away from the house in the flower bed where the big shrub was located. With the past couple days of rain/snow mix I noticed water in the basement again. Covering the cinder block wall is wood paneling so I can't really see where the water is coming from. Before having someone come out to look I was wondering if you would maybe have some ideas to try before wasting your time. Thank you for any information and any response you may have.
