A homeowner in Independence, MO noticed a water issue in her basement. It was coming through the walls and along the base of the walls as well. She was worried about the problem getting worse and was frustrated because it was a finished basement.
We were able to suggest and solution that she was happy to move forward with. The paneling had to be removed and the carpet pulled back before we were able to start the project. We installed a perimeter waterproofing system called Waterguard. We also installed a vapor barrier system called CleanSpace. Lastly, we installed a sump pump to prevent future water problems. The customer was very pleased with the outcome of the project.
This homeowner's beautiful new concrete was left exposed and was in need of some protection! NexusPro joint sealant is the perfect solution to give your concrete the protection it needs to keep that clean new look.
This customer's driveway was a very large pour of concrete that was sitting in incompetent soil. We used helical piers to stabilize the stoop and catch it from falling forward and causing bigger issues with the home. Then, we used our polymer foam to lift the driveway and make everything as level as possible. Finally, we added our NexusPro caulking in all the joints and cracks to keep water from penetrating beneath the surface.
These homeowners just bought their new home in a better health care area. They loved the new home because it has extra space for their kids to stay when they are in town, however in heavy rain, the basement started to flood. They were concerned about this problem because they didn't want this to effect their kids from wanting to visit them, so they gave us a call.
We sent System Design Specialist Daryn Britton to inspect the basement to determine where water could get in the home, and come up with a custom solution to ensure that these homeowners keep a dry basement. Daryn found that water was coming in through the cold joints of the home, but only during the heavy rains. While this situation isn't a fun one, Daryn was happy to tell the homeowners that they caught the problem early enough so that no additional damage was caused besides the water pooling in the basement. After discussing the solutions with the homeowners, our installation team got to work on installing a WaterGuard Interior Drainage System, a partial CleanSpace Vapor Barrier, and a new TripleSafe Sump Pump in the homeowners basement to ensure that water was not seen in the basement again.
The homeowners were really happy with the outcome. They know that their kids will keep visiting them and they look forward to seeing the basement dry year-round. Check out these homeowners' dry basement solutions!
Water management can take on many forms. In most cases, a home is built so that the yard can be graded to properly drain water away from the foundation. Swales are even graded into the landscape to provide a path for water to drain away from structures and toward storm drains. In some cases, though, grading is not correct or has to be changed. Sometimes a neighboring property will change their landscape and change the original drainage that was planned for the neighborhood.
When grading is done well, and gutters and downspouts are installed correctly, water will shed away from the foundation helping to prevent wet basements and bowing basement walls. When those problems persist, and interior French drain, draintile, or another form of interior drainage is the usual recommended solution. However, if there are major grading issues, they must be addressed outside. Not addressing the pooling water can lead to extreme flooding or excessive pressure that can push a foundation wall in causing cracks and other structural issues.
The best approach to solving grading issues is to regrade in a way that water can runoff of the yard naturally and without pooling in the yard. Unfortunately, there are rare cases where that isn’t possible. That is when a change in landscape design should be considered. One tool in the landscape toolbox is the exterior French drain or curtain drain.
For this customer in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Thrasher was able to work with them on both their yard drainage issues and dealing with the water that was already getting into the basement. An exterior interceptor drain was installed in this home’s back yard. Since the yard was not naturally sloped to move water away from the home, it was collecting in areas close to the foundation. While an interior waterproofing drainage system may have kept the basement dry, the pooling water still had a chance to cause structural damage. The homeowner also did not like having a muddy mess in their backyard after ever rainfall and even after watering the lawn.
