These homeowners were transforming their old unused space into a living area for a family member that has severe health issues. They are transforming it to give their family member the ability to regain some control over their life, as well as independence. More importantly, they were transforming the space so that they did not have to worry about their family member.
In order for the space to be converted into a livable area, we had to pour a new slab with rebar reinforcements, as well as implement our Smartjacks system in order to stop water from coming up through the floor due to hydrostatic pressure, as well to make the building structurally sound.
Because these systems were implemented and they have been able to move their family member into the new space the entire home, as well the members in it have been able to have a sigh of relief.
This homeowner noticed that he was having issues with his foundation being extremely wet, as well as water coming through at the corners of his basement walls, because of these two issues he contacted Basement Systems of New York to see what could be done to help take care of his water issue.
In order to take care of the issues at hand for this homeowner we excavate along the back and right side of their home in order to get to their current footing drains, we then installed a new footing drain system with triple wall 4" perforated pipe. We then sprayed their foundation with our GMX waterproofing coating with drain board and finally rough backfilled the trench that we had created in order to install their new footing drain system.
Since installing our systems on the back and right side of their home they have noticed that their home is so much more comfortable, as well as a dry foundation which has allowed their foundation to remain structurally sound.
These homeowners contacted Basement Systems Of New York to see how we could help their home, which was built in 1956. Because of where they are located, the pitch of their land, and all the rain that we have seen this year, their basement has been taking on water through cracks in their poured concrete foundation, as well as the wall-floor joint.
To fix the problems in their home we installed three of our patented waterproofing products. We started by creating our trench around the perimeter of their basement before installing any of our products. After digging our trench we laid perforated pipe with gravel. We then proceeded to encapsulate the walls of the basement with CleanSpace. In doing so, we can ensure that no moisture or water will penetrate the basement again. Finally, we installed our WaterGuard waterproofing system and connected it to our TripleSafe sump pump before applying concrete.
Two days after installing their system, they were able to test their new system thanks to a major rainstorm that moved in. Throughout the storm, it was made clear to them that their home was bone dry and there was not any excess moisture or humidity. Because of how well their system performed, they could not be any happier with making the decision to invest in their home and improve their overall comfort level.
This homeowner contacted us to see what could be done to remedy the water problem they were having in there basement. Our Design Specialist came out to assess what was wrong with their home. In the process of assessing their home, he found out they had a monolithic foundation. He was able to determine this by seeing that there was a full exposed block where the floor and wall meet, this indicated to him that the floor was poured first and then the wall was built on top of it, which is not a traditional way to build a home. The traditional way to construct a home is to pour the footing, then the wall and lastly pour the floor. A home is traditionally built this way as the footing is the most important part of the home. Due to this if a traditional waterproofing system was to be installed the structural integrity of the home would be compromised, as a third of the footing would be removed. Due to this home having a monolithic foundation we needed to install our patented Dual System with DryTrak.
In this situation, we needed to install our Dual System to stop water from coming in at the floor joints, floor cracks and to alleviate water from coming up under the floor due to hydrostatic pressure. In order to install our Dual System with DryTrak, we had to jackhammer one foot away from the wall, by doing this we can create a footing that does not compromise the structural integrity of the home. By doing this we can eliminate water coming up through the slab due to the creation of the path of least resistance, as well due to DryTrak water will be stopped at the wall-floor joint. In order to implement Drytrak with our Dual System, we needed to grind the wall-floor joint to allow for maximum adherence of epoxy. We then cleaned the surface to perfection, and then finally apply epoxy to the wall-floor joint to run DryTrak around the perimeter of the basement, by doing this we will be able to catch any water that penetrates their home and direct it to the sump pump. This homeowner had contacted us about two and half years ago saying they thought they had a leak in their basement. Our Specialist then went out and evaluated their home, upon his evaluation he was able to confirm their thoughts about a plumbing leak, he as well mentioned to them that there were a couple of signs that concerned him about their being potentially a bigger water problem in the future. Two years later our Specialist received a call again from the homeowner that their basement was taking on an extreme amount of water due to the issues that our Specialist had pointed out during his previous evaluation. He was able to figure out that they had a lot of hydrostatic pressure pushing water up into their basement.
For us to fix the problem at hand for this homeowner to ensure that their home stays dry regardless of the season, as well as the amount of rain or snow they get we installed one of our patented waterproofing systems, which is comprised of 160 feet of FlowGuard, an under slab system with a lateral that spaned from the back part of their basement to our sump basin. Finally to make sure that all water caught by our waterproofing system would be directed out of the home we installed a SuperSump basin with approximately 220 feet of gravity discharged, which would run in front of their home to the front right-hand corner of the property where it would discharge into their pond.
