Customer and roommate were getting sick due to mold growth starting in crawlspace
This customer called with concerns of her crawlspace due to her and her roommate always having runny noses. She had read our article about how up to 50% of the air you breathe in your home comes from the crawlspace. Our inspector recommended a crawlspace encapsulation to improve the air quality in their home. Our crew dried out the crawlspace to get rid of the mud and standing water. They completely sealed the crawlspace using our CleanSpace vapor barrier. It is a 20 mil thick woven fiber vapor barrier that is rip resistant. The clean air was instant, the homeowner could tell right away that there was no longer a musty odor and the whole house just smelled better. She was so happy with the job the crew did and just had a relief about all the mold and other things that she could have been breathing in when her crawlspace was wet and moldy.
This customer called with an active water problem that he knew needed to be fixed soon. Our inspector went out and found that with the water in the crawlspace and high humidity the moisture had been absorbed by the fiberglass insulation. With constant exposure to moisture, mold had begun to grow on the joists and posts. Our crew went out and did a crawlspace encapsulation system for the water situation. We installed our CleanSpace vapor barrier that is 20 mils thick woven fiber barrier. It is tear-resistant and will not deteriorate with water exposure. When we encapsulate a crawlspace we bring the vapor barrier all the way up to the sill plate of the home. When finished the crawlspace is encapsulated and considered a conditioned space. The homeowner was so relieved to have the mold taken care of and he didn't have to worry about further water damage to his home.
When this homeowner had called us they previously had installed their own sump pump. Unfortunately, their crawl space still had inches of water all over. Having standing water in your crawl space can damage your foundation and any organic materials in it. Standing water can also lead to mold and damage the air in your home. Our crews installed our TripleSafe sump pump that has a two-level pumping system along with a battery-operated pump that runs in case of a power outage. The difference in this crawl space is shocking and the homeowners couldn't believe it was the same space.
