This homeowner called All-Dry of the Carolinas because they were getting a strange odor throughout their home, which they believed was caused by something in their crawlspace. This is something that we see quite often. When crawlspaces (and basements) have water intrusion, and stagnant water in them, a musty smell usually tags along with it. Since the air in a home cycles from the bottom-up, this smell can make its way throughout a home.
Fortunately, this issue is pretty easily solved with a full encapsulation system. The dampness and water in crawlspaces usually come from the ground, so when getting CleanSpace installed, it essentially seals off the crawlspace from the outside world. We have had several homeowners say that even within a week or two after our system was installed that the smell had completely tapered off.
CleanSpace works so well because it is very different than a "traditional" crawlspace liner (like the black one in the before picture). CleanSpace is a 20 mil-thick liner, similar to a pool liner that doesn't allow water or water vapor to get through. Not only does the liner itself prevent anything from getting through, but the crew completely seals the liner to the walls with tape and caulk, to make sure no water vapor gets around the sides.
High moisture levels under homes is an issue that doesn't discriminate. This issue can occur with any size home, big or small, and can happen almost anywhere in the world. There are, of course, some areas that are more prone to and are affected more by this excess moisture. Unfortunately, here in South Carolina we tend to have much higher humidity levels than at least most of the rest of the United States. This higher humidity level leads to more moisture under the homes here as well, which leads us to the unfortunate situation that this homeowner was in.
This homeowner began to worry about the moisture levels in the crawlspace, when they thought about having new wood floors installed. Having hardwood floors ruined because of too much moisture in the crawlspace happens quite often, which is probably the reason why the company who was installing the floors had checked the crawlspace humidity level. The first photo shows off what the crawlspace looked like when our System Design Specialist first went out to the home. The damp earth can be seen around the perimeter of the crawlspace, indicating too much moisture.
The crawlspace was completely transformed after the crew made their way to the home! While there were many different steps from the first picture to this finished product, it was certainly worth it. CleanSpace is able to completely transform a crawlspace and turn it into a place that is almost unrecognizable of what it used to be. CleanSpace does a great job at making crawlspaces look much different, but more importantly CleanSpace is able to seal off a crawlspace from the outside world, keeping the majority of water and moisture out of the crawlspace.
This homeowner in Clinton needed some work done in the crawl space. Fortunately they caught the problem before any major damage was done. This customer went all out in the products they decided to have installed. They were educated on the dangers of a wet or damp crawl space, and all of the problems it could cause in the future. The main products they installed were the SantaFe Dehumidifier, SmartSump Pump system, and CleanSpace Liner and drainage matting. The combination of these products really provides great protection and prevention of problems later on.
The "before" photo shows an area of the basement before we had installed our products. While the picture is a little dark, you can see the old liner, which does not offer much protection at all. Towards the back of the picture, you can see fallen insulation, which is a sign of moisture in the crawl space.
The "after" photo shows a much more pleasant area to be in and look at. This is the same area as before. The biggest difference is just how bright it is, the white, reflective surface is great when you (or any repairmen) are working under your home. We just wish all of the benefits were as obvious as the physical look of CleanSpace! The benefits that you can't see (at least not at first) include the decrease and sometimes complete elimination of moisture under your home, decreased heating and cooling costs, and several more!

This homeowner called All-Dry of the Carolinas when they started noticing a strange smell in their crawlspace. Unfortunately, this is an extremely common sign of a high humidity level in the crawlspace. This crawlspace was not in too bad of shape, but it had enough moisture coming from the ground and walls that they needed some type of system to take care of the problem.
Our Systems Design Specialist, Alex Rogers, went out to this home just a few days after they called, to get a better look at the area and really determine what kind of system this family needed to make their crawlspace happy and healthy. This system included 3-inch drain tile, a SmartSump pump, a dehumidifier, and of course CleanSpace liner. This homeowner got the full CleanSpace encapsulation!
The difference between these two photos is incredible, both physically and functionally. The most obvious difference between the before and after pictures is the CleanSpace that was installed. It completely changes the look of the area, but it also provides a great service. The CleanSpace (along with the rest of the products) keep the moisture out of the crawlspace so that the family doesn't have to worry about this anymore!
We often encounter crawlspaces in all shapes and sizes. Some crawlspaces are tiny, which require are crews to crawl through it on their hands and knees. Some crawlspaces are connected to a basement and so they are oddly shaped, much like this one. This Clinton, South Carolina crawlspace was definitely a weird one. But that didn’t make much difference to us. We’ve seen it all and we’ve fixed it all.
This crawlspace, despite its weirdness, required very little. One thing is for sure, it needed a CleanSpace liner and an Aprilaire dehumidifier. The trouble, of course, was the odd shape of the crawlspace. In order for our liner to perform to its best ability, it needed to cover the entire floor of the crawlspace. This required a lot of movement and adjusting from our crew. However, they were able to create what you see here. A platform was even created to raise the dehumidifier. It looks particularly well done, proving, once again, that All-Dry of the Carolinas gets the work done.
