The new homeowner had a 1915 stone foundation home, that was showing signs of water intrusion in the basement. The customer also mentioned that there was a sump pump in the basement, but the life of the motor had come to an end.
The long-term goal of this customer was to finish the basement, but if you know you have a water intrusion issue in the basement, your first step to finishing is taking care of the leaks.
Knowing that water is entering in through the foundation walls, you need to stop that water from penetrating the foundation or redirect the water. Now if you don't want to excavate and waterproof from the exterior, which is not always a guaranteed correction, you'll want to redirect that water with the installation of our Cleanspace vapor barrier. Where to redirect the water to? This is where you would install our Waterguard perimeter drainage system ( Drytrak for those tight tricky spots or thick slabs like monolithic flooring). The Cleanspace will drain those leaking foundation walls, directly down into the Waterguard.
So at this point, water has leaked in through the foundation wall and the vapor barrier did its job and directed the moisture down to the perimeter drain, but it can not stay here, the point of a waterproofing system is to get water out of the basement, so it needs somewhere else to go. This is where we replaced their old non working sump pump with our TripleSafe sump pump which collects the water from the waterguard and then discharges it on the exterior of the home.
Now finally having a warranted, dry basement, the homeowner can move on to the finishing portion and making this area in to a useable space!
The extremely high moisture levels in this customer's crawlspace had caused significant damage to the center support beam. Here we used existing piers and temporary jacks to lift the floor off the old cracked and rotting beam so we could replace it with new, pressure-treated lumber. Once we replaced the beam, we advised this customer to have a sump system and dehumidifier installed in order to keep the high moisture levels in check.
