Tired of dealing with wet and dirty crawl space, this customer in Far Hills, NJ, reached out to Crawl Space Solutions by Cowleys and wanted us to encapsulate his crawl space! Dirt floor crawl spaces attract and absorb moisture and once the dirt dries, it causes humidity levels to rise and can lead to mold and mildew issues (fortunately, there was no mold or mildew in the crawl space).
First, we removed all the debris and old insulation, leveled the ground for proper draining, and installed drainage matting, which is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the sump pump. We also cleaned off all the beams in the crawl space and installed SilverGlo™ on the walls of the crawl space. SilverGlo™ is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity.
Afterward, we installed a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. By encapsulating the crawl space & installing the vapor barrier over the foundation walls and floor will create a continuous air and moisture barrier. The vapor barrier is extremely durable and is treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold. Lastly, to control the humidity levels in the crawl space, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run.
Now the homeowner has no longer has a dirty, dirt-floored crawl as well as an additional area in their home for storage!
We were sent out to the home of a new customer in Far Hills, NJ to encapsulate his dirt floor crawl space. There are several issues with having a dirt floor crawl space, such as high humidity levels, poor air quality, structural damage, dry rot, and mold and mildew.
First, we removed all the debris and old insulation out of the crawl space and disposed of them properly. Once that was finished, we leveled the ground for proper draining and installed drainage matting, which is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to the new SmartSump™ Crawl Space Sump Pump we installed. The SmartSump™ Crawl Space Sump Pump protects vulnerable crawl spaces by combining an intelligent WaterWatch® alarm system with a sump pump that's specifically designed for crawl spaces.
Next, we installed a vapor barrier, which is a heavy-duty, 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with a polyester-cord reinforcement. It cannot tear and is extremely durable. By encapsulating the crawl space & installing the vapor barrier over the foundation walls and floor will create a continuous air and moisture barrier. The vapor barrier is also treated with an antimicrobial to prevent mold. Once that was finished, we installed ComfortTherm® Insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® Insulation is poly-encapsulated and is ideal for moisture-rich crawl space environments. The insulation also helps to preserve the air quality, reduce energy costs, provide excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates.
Lastly, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run. Now the owner has a newly transformed, energy efficient crawl space that also doubles as a storage area!
Our Crawl Space team was sent out to the home of a new customer in Basking Ridge, NJ, to help them out with their humid and messy crawl space. Due to the high humidity levels in the crawl space, the insulation was saturated and falling down. Fortunately, there wasn't any mold growing in the crawl space.
First, we removed all of the contaminated insulation, as well as other debris, out of the crawl space and properly disposed of them. Next, we removed the old vapor barrier and added a drainage matting. This is a dimpled plastic mat that allows all excess moisture to work its way over to sump pump. Afterward, we added a reinforced polyethylene plastic film on top of the drainage matting. The next thing we did was seal off all the exposed vents throughout the crawl space. This will prevent any outside moisture, as well as any rodents or pests, from entering the crawl space.
Next, we installed ComfortTherm® Insulation throughout the crawl space. ComfortTherm® Insulation is poly-encapsulated and is ideal for moisture-rich crawl space environments. The insulation also helps to preserve the air quality and reduce energy costs. ComfortTherm® insulation also provides excellent temperature and noise control, and comes with a vapor-retarder for use in hot, humid climates. Lastly, to control the humidity levels in the crawl space, we installed a Sedona dehumidifier. This is a powerful, energy-efficient, commercial-grade dehumidifier that outperforms standard household dehumidifiers by as much as 10 times while using the same amount of energy to run.

A new client in Freehold, NJ, was in desperate need of new insulation in his crawl space. A short while ago, a pipe burst, flooding the entire crawl space. The pipe was repaired, but the insulation got saturated. Fortunately, mold hasn't developed yet, but if not treated immediately, it's only a matter of time until it does!
First, we removed all the contaminated insulation from the crawl space and disposed of it properly. Afterward, we wiped down all the joists and installed ComfortTherm® insulation. ComfortTherm® insulation provides excellent temperature and noise control and comes with a vapor retarder for use in hot, humid climates. Next, we installed SilverGlo™ on the walls of the crawl space. SilverGlo™ is a waterproof foam insulation that seals the walls from outside moisture and humidity.
Lastly, we installed a Sani-Dry Sedona commercial-grade dehumidifier to control the humidity levels in the crawl space. The Sedona directs the extracted water pulled out of the air directly into the sump pump, which will also maintain the humidity levels in the crawl space.
