Water getting into the basement of a home can cause more problems than people realize. The water can start to damage the floors and wall where it is coming through into the basement, but that is not where the damage stops. Having water in the basement of a home means there is more moisture and more moisture means the possibility for mold growth. It may seem insignificant, but if this isn't taken care of in a timely manner the mold spores can be circulated throughout the home and begin causing health issues with occupants of the home.
This homeowner started to worry about their basement after they began to notice water stains on their basement walls. However this was only part of the problems with this basement. After awhile, the homeowners also began to see mold growth in the basement. This was the point that they knew this wasn't just a small issue, but that they needed to have a professional come out and see what could be done to take care of these issues.
Fortunately we knew we would be able to help out this homeowner because we've fixed similar problems hundreds, if not thousands of times before. While this was a serious issue, it had a relatively simple fix. Our crew installed our WaterGuard drain along the perimeter of the basement in order to catch the water coming into the area. The crew also installed a SuperSump pump system in order to pump the water away from the home. With just these two products we were able to keep this homeowner from having to worry about water getting into their basement.
This basement in Gaffney, South Carolina was in some need of drainage for their basement. They were having some water intrusion into the basement, which started to worry the homeowner, so they gave us a call! Our service design specialist was easily able to figure out what the best solution would be for the homeowner; WaterGuard and a sump pump, along with some BrightWall.
The "before" picture shows the state of the basement before our crew came in to install the products. While the water intrusion is not very visible, it was definitely affecting the area. Something else that can be seen in this picture is the old sump pump. While it was good that this home had a sump pump, the way it was installed was definitely not the best. While difficult to see, it is essentially a hole in the ground with a pump in it, having the hole open allows water to evaporate and cause problems.
The "after" photo shows the same area, but with our products already installed. All three of the products that were installed are all shown in this picture. The first one may be harder to notice, it is actually on the lower part of the wall, the white area and is BrightWall. This is used to help drain water from the wall to the WaterGuard. Next, we have the WaterGuard, which isn't actually visible. It is under the wet concrete around the perimeter of the crawlspace. It has a slight gap between the wall and floor, so that water can "flow" into it. The final product that is in this photo is the SuperSump sump pump.
No homeowner is happy to find out that there is water getting into their basement. This frustration can be even worse when the area is finished or used for storage. Water getting into and onto items isn't the only destruction that can come from water intrusion. Another big issue with water intrusion is high moisture levels if they are too high mold can grow on any organic surface. This includes papers, blankets, cardboard boxes, and even furniture!
While this homeowner wasn't quite in that situation yet, this did have a partially finished basement that was getting water in it. Needless to say, this homeowner wanted to take care of the issue before it got any worse. So they gave All-Dry of the Carolinas a call to have one of our System Design Specialists come out to the home. We were able to figure out what needed to be done to address the water intrusion issues, as well as finding some signs of foundation issues that our Specialist had a great solution for.
However, the main focus of this before and after the set is to show the waterproofing system that our crew installed. The two main parts of the system are the WaterGuard drain and the CleanSpace Wall. The WaterGuard is a drain that actually is installed in the floor next to the wall. It has a flange that leaves a small gap between the floor and the wall (for water to get in). The water is then drained to the sump pump and pumped out of the home. The CleanSpace that covers the wall helps to catch any water or moisture that could come in through the wall.
This Spartanburg, South Carolina home reported a huge moisture issue in its basement. In particular, the home owners were having a lot of trouble with the walls of the basement. Unsure of how to deal with the issue, they decided to give All-Dry of the Carolinas a ring.
When the homeowners called us over, our Design Specialist found a bit of a mess. See the “before” picture. If we take a closer look at the walls, we can see a ghostly, dried substance. That’s called efflorescence, or dried water; it’s what is left behind when water has been into the space. It’s evidence. It makes the otherwise handsome walls appear dirty and old. It also leaves behind a musty smell no home owner wants. Part of the reason this happens is the fault of the material. Concrete blocks are porous. They’re excellent tunnels for which water droplets to slip through into your home. The best way to fight this is to put CleanSpace Wall into place. It prevents water from drying on the walls, and it is secured using multiple methods so it won’t “just fall down” without provocation.
Pictured in the ‘after’ photo, you can see how the CleanSpace Wall can make a difference. The space is brighter; it looks cleaner and there is no evidence of that mischievous water residue. The space is, in a word, transformed. Along the edge of the CleanSpace, you can see evidence of newly poured cement. Those dark strips highlight where we’ve laid WaterGuard. This is an effective piping system placed on the inside of the home. It’s placed against the wall, catches excess water, and sends it to the Triple Safe Sump pump to be carried out and away from the home. You’ve got to admit, this is now one spiffy looking basement.
