These homeowners in Fredericksburg, VA had a dirt crawl space under their home. We installed our CleanSpace encapsulation system, and applied spray foam insulation to make sure that this homeowner never has any crawl space issues again.
This Alexandria, VA home was suffering from cold floors and a musty odor emanating from the crawlspace. This was having a serious negative impact on the comfort level of the home. When our sales professional Stephan went out to the property to perform a full home inspection, he determined that the best course of action to end their discomfort would be to waterproof and insulate the crawlspace. Stephan explained to the homeowners that the primary cause of their discomfort was the uninsulated crawlspace cooling down the floors in the rooms above and the lack of waterproofing allowing mold to build up which was causing the smell. After the homeowners agreed to Stephan's solution our service crews went out to get to work on the home. The crews started by clearing out all the debris in the crawlspace to create an even work surface and to turn the crawlspace into a useable space. Then they began laying down TerraBlock floor insulation to help the crawlspace maintain an even temperature. After that, they installed SilverGlo rigid foam insulation on the walls to prevent the crawlspace from making the floors cold. Finally, the crew installed CleanSpace covering over the floors to prevent any moisture build-up that could lead to mold growth or water damage.
This Arlington, VA homeowner called us due to a musty smell in their home. Our sales professional Pedro visited with the homeowner to provide a no cost inspection of the home to find out where the smell was coming from. After completing the inspection Pedro was able to show the homeowners that there was a need for waterproofing within the home's crawlspace and a repair of some minor water damage. Mold growth had lead to the smell in the home above the crawl space. Pedro determined that the best solution would be to replace what little waterproofing was currently in the crawlspace with a new high-end CleanSpace waterproofing and insulation system. Once the project was approved our service crews went out to get to work on the home. We removed the old insulation and the thin plastic tarp that had previously served as the crawlspace's only form of water protection. We then installed TerraBlock floor insulation that would act as a puncture-proof barrier that was both waterproof and discouraged growth from mold, mildew, and rot. After that, they Installed CleanSpace covering as a secondary layer of waterproofing and to provide a flat platform to improve the crawlspace's ability to act as storage. Finally, the crews applied spray foam insulation to the rim joists and installed the CleanSpace vapor barrier as the final layer of insulation and water protection to keep the home comfortable and mold-free year-round. The crawl space is now sealed, conditioned and can be used by the homeowner if needed for storage.
Customer called us with concerns about their poorly insulated crawl space. Our certified home energy sales pro, Jason, visited the home where he created a plan that would remove and replace the existing batt insulation along with a complete crawl space transformation which would solve the problem with excellence.
One of the leading causes of home performance issues, and specifically mildew and mold issues in crawl spaces, is uncontrolled air flow. Most crawl spaces are designed with vents that people leave open all year long. This allows external air, moisture, dust and allergens to enter the crawl space. That air eventually works its way into the living spaces of the home above and is what the homeowners will breath. Capping and air sealing crawl space vents is often the first step in turning a nasty crawl space into a controlled environment that can positively improve the health and comfort of the people living in a home. Silver Glo insulation panels are seen here, cut to fit the vents and then air sealed with Zyp Foam.
