Upon inspecting this crawl space, we noticed many pests, whether dead or alive. We also noticed high moisture levels, which is related to the pest problem. The customer decided it would be best to fix these problems by encapsulating. We encapsulated by waterproofing, insulating, dehumidifying, and installing our white CleanSpace liner shown in the picture.
In order to control the high humidity levels for this crawl space in Wilmore, KY, we installed a large vapor barrier all across the dirt floor and all across the walls. You see, when we install our CleanSpace liner, we make sure to seal it off with tape everywhere in the crawl space, even the concrete piers. This way, there is effectively no way moisture can seep up through the crawl space. We also added a dehumidification system to ensure moisture would not be present in the crawl space any longer. This drenched crawl space looked like a rainforest before we came and encapsulated it. We first waterproofed the crawl space, then we installed a vapor barrier, then we sealed the crawl space vents, then we set up a dehumidification system. These four steps will ensure a dry crawl space for a long time.
