Whenever a crawl space is allowing humidity and moisture to enter the space, it will eventually rise to the home above it. A dilemma such as this was happening in Mt. Carmel, IL. Humidity and moisture combined make up a recipe for trouble. Whenever temperatures are between 32 and 100 and the relative humidity is between 70% and 99%, mold can thrive. When mold grows, it reproduces more airborne seeds to grow more mold, which is why it is crucial to remove it before it affects a homeowner's health. All mold is scrubbed and sprayed away through mold remediation. A trench is made beside the sides of the crawl space to allow any water to not overflow the crawl space floor. Brown matting, called Dimple matting, is laid throughout the space to create a flow toward the sump pump that will be installed in the ground. A SmartSump pump will continuously pump out any excess water that enters the crawl space. A white, pool-like liner called CleanSpace is put over the Dimple matting, creating a clean and healthy space for the family!

Mold is a serious health concern and many of the homes in the Poseville area suffer from it.  Mold occurs when the indoor humidity levels are high, the area is warm, and there is organic material for the mold to feed on.  This set of criteria describes crawlspaces perfectly.  From the dirt floor to the wooden sub-floor joists, there is a great deal of organic material for mold to feed on.  Here, you can see the mold and fungus growing along the wooden joists in this crawlspace.  The whitish blobs are actually spider sacks (the closer white mark in the upper left) and fungal growth (present on second joist from the front).  In the second picture, you can see the first joist has received a mold treatment and scrub down to remove the fungus.  For contrast, you can still see the Mold-X treatment on the bottom of the joist, which will be scrubbed next.  Mold removal isn't going to fix this crawlspace because the underlying humidity issues are still present.  After the mold has been removed, the entire crawlspace will be encapsulated with CleanSpace, the most technologically advanced vapor barrier on the market.  It's going to reduce water intrusion and allow the crawlspace to be "conditioned space" when a dehumidifier called a SaniDry is installed.

This Central CIty, KY crawlspace was experiencing seasonal flooding, mold growth, and poor energy efficiency.  The homeowners had been looking for a permenant solution to the flooding and mold issues.  They knew that unless they could reduce the relative humidity, remove the excess groundwater from the crawlspace, and isolate their home from outside humidity.  The best solution is to use a waterproofing drainage system with powerful sump pump and overlay the system with CleanSpace.

CleanSpace is a rugged, multi-layer plastic liner, similar to a pool liner.  It is guaranteed against rips, tears, and water on top of the liner when installed with a drainage system for 25 years.  In fact, CleanSpace is so durable that pests can't pentrate it and it's safe to climb over and use for proper storage.  

CleanSpace is an engineered film--blue on one side and white on the other.  The white side reflects the crawlspace light to brighten the area and make it easier to see what you're storing.  

We've all seen the usual crawlspace door--plywood, old palettes, or scrap wood nailed together to cover the crawlspace opening. Even if the cover is painted or covered in shingles, it's usually warped and degraded by the sun. The metal hinges are usually rusted and in many cases, the hinges have pulled out of the siding. These old crawlspace doors lead to many problems besides just being ugly; they also allow pests, mold spores, and moisture into your home. Since these doors are not airtight, cold winter air will enter creating energy efficiency issues and increasing your heating bills.
