We've all seen the usual crawlspace door--plywood, old palettes, or scrap wood nailed together to cover the crawlspace opening. Even if the cover is painted or covered in shingles, it's usually warped and degraded by the sun. The metal hinges are usually rusted and in many cases, the hinges have pulled out of the siding. These old crawlspace doors lead to many problems besides just being ugly; they also allow pests, mold spores, and moisture into your home. Since these doors are not airtight, cold winter air will enter creating energy efficiency issues and increasing your heating bills.
Healthy Spaces offers several access door options to their homeowners. These are made entirely out of plastics and foams. Once installed, they create an airtight, waterproof seal between your crawl space and the cold or humid air outside.
This new crawl space doors is called a Turtl. It is constructed of rugged, durable plastic. It can be secured from the outside and it will not warp or fade in the sun. A Turtl is inexpensive, easy to install, and keep your home looking great!

These Wadesville, IN homeowners were struggling against a nasty, smelly, musty crawlspace with periodic flooding for years. The feature that truly makes the most visual difference is the new Everlast Crawlspace Entry door. As you can see in the above picture, the crawlspace entry was originally blocked with a painted piece of plywood. The problem with plywood, and any organic material, is that it degrades so quickly in the elements. The wood warps and swells, causing the paint to chip and bubble. The whole entry becomes an eyesore very quickly. On top of that, it becomes a petry dish for mold and fungus and is very inefficient energy-wise.
The new Everlast crawlspace door is a durable plastic that won't warp, bubble, bend, or fade through the seasons. It maintains its shape and keeps a consistent seal along the entryway, allowing the crawlspace itself to remain drier and temperature constant than previously. As you can see, it's a neutral shade that attractively blends with the home and it will remain that way for years to come.
A family reached out to us from Sebree, KY, exclaiming that their crawl space was remaining damp and after heavy rain, there was standing water present on the ground of the crawl space. The family needed the crawl space to be sealed and treated in hopes to create a dry space. Standing water in the crawl space was an apparent issue that needed to be taken care of, such as the access well openings that were not closed properly. If access well openings are not properly sealed, water and outside air can seep through, damaging the home's health. When there s standing water inside any home, it is urgent to find the problem and create a solution.
The water leakage culprit was poorly tightened and sealed access wells that were located outside of the crawl space. The access wells were repaired by putting new covers to keep out any water or outside air. CleanSpace, which is a 20 mil, bright white liner, that is laid across the crawl space floor to provide a vapor barrier for the space. The liner prevents air and water from entering the atmosphere of the crawl space, which will resolve the standing water issue. A SmartSump pump and SaniDry Sedona are installed to pump water out of the crawl space and to create a continuous dry air flow. With a dry crawl space, the family is guaranteed to have a healthy home without unsafe risks.
Homeowner John B., in Albion, IL started noticing water building up in his crawl space. If left alone, humidity and excess moisture can lead to mold growth, wood rot, and pest infestations. Crawl space moisture often migrates upstairs through the "stack effect," contributing to structural damage, musty odors, and high energy bills.
Our team first had to go in and perform mold remediation. Next our team installed a waterproofing system in the crawl space that included a SmartSump Crawl Space sump pump system and EZ Flow Drainage. The last step was to install a durable vapor barrier made of a 20-mil material similar to a pool liner called CleanSpace. CleanSpace® 20 mil vapor barrier is puncture and tear resistant. An anti-microbial agent is blended into the liner to kill mold and bacteria. John will now have peace of mind knowing that his crawl space in Albion, IL is clean and dry.
