Before Healthy Spaces came out to fix this Crofton, KY crawl space, there was a surplus of mold growing on every surface in their crawl space. They had been in their home several years but put the thought of a moldy crawl space in the back of their minds. What they didn't know was that a mold problem only grows bigger and bigger the longer you leave it alone. Ultimately, the mold will end up ruining your home, your health and your family's well being.
Design Specialist, Damon Cheatham, came out to the home to offer solutions to their problems. Here you can see in the before and after photo that our team worked to remove all the debris and organic material from the crawl space. With that out of the way, they could start the mold removal process. The first step is to seal off openings to prevent cross-contamination and then remove airborne contaminants by using air scrubbers. Next, we used a HEPA vacuum to remove any loose contaminants. And lastly, we applied a solution that foams on contact, then it penetrates the soil load which will leave a contaminate free surface.
The after photo shows the amazing difference that the mold remediation team at Healthy Spaces created.
Homeowner in Crofton, KY had issues with humidity in their crawl space which eventually caused mold to grow on the floor joists. When you have humidity in the crawl space, it can lead to the following problems: rotting & mold, odors & allergens, and higher utility bills just to name a few. As humidity builds in your crawl space, it creates an ideal space for mold and rot to grow which is exactly what our client was experiencing. After hearing that their neighbors used Healthy Spaces, they decided to give us a call for a free, no-obligation inspection.
Our team first needed to remove any materials that had been exposed to mold spores before we could remediate them. Once that was completed, Sean and his team, treated the entire area with chemicals to kill any remaining mold and would prevent any further growth. Once all the mold was removed and the area was treated, our team installed a new vapor barrier throughout the crawl space and sealed all vents. Controlling ground moisture with a vapor barrier is a crucial part of keeping your crawl space dry and creates a healthier environment for your family to breathe.
It's important to protect your crawl space from future water that finds its way into the crawlspace through the dirt floors. A homeowner in Rockport, Kentucky, wanted to add drainage matting to properly protect the space. A dimpled Polyethylene membrane allows water to flow to the sump pump. It also gives an extra cushion for the CleanSpace liner to be secured on top of.
This Reed, KY homeowner had noticed that his home would never stay the same temperature. It was humid and hot in the summer, and the air conditioner was always running. In the winter, it was frigid, and with the heat running and the floors were always cold as well. The homeowner decided to give us a call to diagnose the issues that were happening.
Design Specialist, Damon Cheatham, was to the rescue. When he arrived, he greeted the homeowners and proceeded to do a thorough inspection of the crawl space. It was humid and damp, and the previous vapor barrier wasn't doing its job. Damon recommended a new vapor barrier to keep the crawl space dry and seal away the outside moisture and air. The crew installed a 6mil liner to the crawl space to help with this.
These homeowners are very satisfied with the end result and have already noticed a financial difference in their monthly electric bills.
A customer based in Rockport IN wanted to solve a moisture problem that has been persisting for the past few years. The home itself has visual signs of sagging floors such as a slight floor slope and a few cracks in the interior walls. A floor slope can eventually create a gap between the floor and interior walls, hence the walls showing cracks. When a crawl space is built, the columns are located throughout the crawl space to support the weight of the structure above. Since the columns were spaced too far apart, the beam was becoming an overload and sagging the columns. This eventually causes the floor joists and girders to become bouncy, and soft, and begin to sag. A floor that is strong and level will fix the root cause of sagging floors.
To solve the issue of moisture and an uneven floor level, a SmartJack System is installed. SmartJacks are steeled support systems used to permanently stabilize and level the girders and food joists in a crawl space. These support systems do not replace the existing columns and piers, but add strength and stability to what is there. The weak foundation soils and moisture conditions are addressed once a two-foot cube of soil is excavated at each SmartJack location. The hole will be filled with concrete or engineered fill to create a stable, load-bearing footing. The base is positioned to hold the SmartJack in place and to ultimately distribute loads. Installing our SmartJack System will prevent any sagging floors in the future and give the homeowner peace of mind.
