Mr. Woods has an earthen crawl space with several problems:
- Water infiltration
- Humidity
- Mold
When it rains or during spring, water infiltrates in his crawl space creating a lot of humidity and mold over time. Another source of moisture is the earthen ground. The water in the soil evaporates creating moisture.
All of This has affected the comfort of his home, as his floors were cold and there was a smell of dampness in the house. So he contacted Systèmes Sous-sol in order to isolate his crawl space and resolve his problems definitively.
The solution
First, the mold on the wooden walls was removed with our Mold-X product. Then, our experts installed our SilverGlo insulation panels on the walls of the crawl space. 2 '' thick panels with radiant barrier to isolate the cold and reflect heat inside the crawl space. They then laid our TerraBlock insulation sheets on the earthen floor. They made it possible to insulate the crawl space and protect it against humidity. Finally, our experts installed our CleanSpace coating on top of the TerraBlock. Moisture is therefore blocked, it protects the TerraBlock insulation sheets and crawl space into a clear and clean appearance.
This client contacted us initially to fix his humidity problem in his crawlspace, but while we were there, we noticed that there was a very large crack in the foundation wall of the crawl space.
We fixed this issue by installing the PowerBrace system. It consists of zinc coated beams and components. PowerBraces utilize a joist reinforcement that distributes the load evenly. The crawl space is now stable and sealed.
In L'Ange-Gardien, a homeowner was dealing with persistent moisture infiltration in their crawl space—a condition prone to compromising both structural integrity and indoor air quality. Recognizing the urgent need for remediation, our team employed the advanced CleanSpace encapsulation system, a comprehensive solution engineered to create a durable, moisture-impermeable barrier. This system features a 20-mil, antimicrobial-treated vapor barrier liner, meticulously sealed along all walls, piers, and penetrations, effectively mitigating vapor transmission from the soil. The "after" photo reveals a transformed environment, showcasing the high-performance encapsulation and a measurable improvement in air quality.
PROBLEM
There was an unfinished part within the basement, resembling a crawlspace, was excessive humidity with uncomfortable odors. We identified several mold spots, as well as efflorescence.
SOLUTION
1) Encapsulation of the problematic area to eliminate harmful moisture and the installation of a sump pump.
CleanSpace system: It involves covering the floor and walls with a drainage membrane and a vapor barrier above. The drainage membrane has a dimpled surface that helps transport infiltrated water to the sump pump. The vapor barrier prevents the evaporation of infiltrated water, thus eliminating excessive humidity. This barrier also includes an antimicrobial additive, preventing mold growth.
Installing SuperSump sump pump system. This system features a 1/3 HP Zoeller pump, a pump liner, a cover, a sealed sump basin, and a WaterWatch alarm to prevent any potential disasters.
Encapsulating a damp crawl space with our CleanSpace system is an effective solution to moisture problems that can lead to mold growth, unpleasant odors, and structural damage. The CleanSpace system involves installing a durable, vapor-resistant liner that completely seals the crawl space from outside elements, preventing moisture from entering. This system not only protects the home’s foundation but also enhances energy efficiency by insulating the area, creating a cleaner, drier, and healthier environment. With CleanSpace, homeowners can enjoy long-term peace of mind knowing their crawl space is fully protected against dampness and its damaging effects.
