Water had been pouring through these block walls and then puddling on the basement floor. While the flooding hadn't been too terrible, the leaks did result in the stains on the wall and floors seen in the before photo. Other than the stains, the walls also had visible cracks where the water was flowing through.
To fix the leaks and cover up the stains from the past, the crew brought out BrightWall rigid plastic panels. The panels are a moisture barrier, and instead of allowing water to flow down to the floor, they keep water out of sight and behind the barrier. Then the panels direct any leakage to a perimeter drainage system under the floor footing. In one installation, the BrightWall panels waterproofed and improved this basement's look.
A customer wanted to turn part of her basement space into a bedroom. So she called our team for help and so we installed an Egress Window and Well. Due to poor insulation around the window, most windows offer minimal protection against outside air entering the home. Egress windows will help ventilate your indoor areas and prevent unwanted allergens from entering your house. In addition, egress windows provide a safe exit in case of emergency so they are required in finished basement living areas and these windows provide lots of natural light.
When cracks form on walls, it can have consequences such as basement flooding. Cracks are mainly caused by pressure from soil leading to water leakage and expansion. This has to be dealt with to reduce expansion and leakage.
Our FlexiSpan crack repair system will do the job right the first time. FlexiSpan is a three-step process. The first step is to apply a flexible sealant along the full length of the crack. Next, a strip of porous and flexible foam is installed over the crack. Lastly, an impermeable membrane was adhered to the wall on both sides of the foam strip. This treatment allows any future seepage of water through the crack to move invisibly down the wall and into the basements perimeter drainage system. The FlexiSpan crack repair system is flexible enough to move with your wall allowing it to work under all conditions.
Umar and Tanya have lived in their Kalamazoo, MI home for 38 years. They’ve had a little room in the basement that was unfinished and showing signs of water intrusion. During heavy rains the water even seeps into the rest of the basement. Tanya has been wanting to turn the space into an exercise room for years, so they called Ayers for an inspection. Our crew determined the couple would need WaterGuard, a TripleSafe sump pump, and the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to deal with the water intrusion, and BrightWall paneling and Elite Plank wood flooring to fix the cosmetics of the room.
WaterGuard is a sub-floor waterproofing system that collects water that leaks through the walls and keeps dirt away from the foundation. It is installed along the perimeter of the basement and on top of the footing of the foundation. Concrete is poured on top and regular flooring can be placed on top. The TripleSafe Sump Pump system utilizes three pumps in order to remove excess water from the basement. The second and third pumps are in case of emergencies so the basement can remain dry, even when the power goes out. The SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier automatically removes up to 100 pints of water a day from the air in the home’s basement. This system circulates the now dry air through the basement and automatically removes the leftover water so you don’t have to.
To make the room look nice for Umar and Tanya’s exercise room, we installed BrightWall and Elite Plank wood flooring. BrightWall is the perfect solution for those who want to combine beauty and practicality in one. It is a rigid plastic covering that is completely waterproof and made of inorganic materials. This keeps the walls from becoming waterlogged and moldy like wood. The bright white panels reflect the light, maximizing lighting in the basement. Elite Plank wood flooring mimics hardwood with the added benefit of being waterproof as well as keeping the floor a few degrees warmer than the typical concrete and carpet combination. The Elite Plank flooring is perfect for Tanya’s gym because the waterproofing means the couple can sweat and spill a water bottle without and consequences.
Umar and Tanya were ecstatic to finally be able to get the basement completely waterproofed, and cannot want to start using the new space as an in-home gym!
In order to prevent wetness in the basement due to their sump pump, this Kalamzoo family reached out to Ayers for some expert help. We recommened our patented SuperSump sump pump, capable of keeping a basement dry for the long haul. The SuperSump saved this family's basement by having the ability to pump water out of their basement at 2,220 gallons per hour. Their basement now may be used as a safe living space.
