This crawl space was emitting musty smells up to the first floor of this home. In order to stop the musty smells, we were going to have to do a full encapsulation. We encapsulate our crawl spaces with CleanSpace lining, which goes all over the floors, around the concrete piers, and partly up the walls. We then installed SilverGlo insulation on the walls which are amazing at retaining heat, helping people save money on energy bills. We then installed a SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier, which is able to remove up to 100 pints of water out the air in a day.
This crawl space in Hamilton, OH was in pretty rough shape when the homeowners gave us a call to inspect it for free. We told them it would be wise to block out moisture and to control the humidity levels in the crawl space by encapsulating it to prevent further damage to the wood framing. We encapsulated the tiny crawl space by installing our CleanSpace vapor barrier and an energy efficient dehumidifier. We also told them it would be wise to strengthen the wooden framing of the crawl space by adding some sister joists to certain parts of the crawl space. As for the fiberglass insulation hanging from the ceiling, we told them it would be best to rip the fiberglass out completely and replace it with our foam insulation panels. The SilverGlo foam insulation panels go along the walls of the crawl space and are moisture proof, eliminating the need for new fiberglass insulation in the ceiling. After repairing their crawl space, this family doesn't have to worry about mold, rot, or high energy bills any longer!
In order to keep this crawl space safe from moisture, we placed down our CleanSpace crawl space liner, which will block out moisture from the earth. This liner went on top of our drainage matting, which can not be seen from the picture. The drainage matting helps drain water to the sump and also softens the area. We tape the liner at all seams with waterproof tape, and we button the liner up the walls of the crawl space. We also installed SilverGlo insulation along the walls, which are made of an inorganic material and are unable to grow mold.
A homeowner in Cincinnati wanted to have their crawl space insulated, and so they called us for help. The homeowner met with one of our Certified Inspectors, who recommended that we install a CleanSpace encapsulation system along with drainage matting, SilverGlo insulation, rim joist insulation, and an Everlast door to resolve the problems in the crawlspace. In these photos, you can see the difference the CleanSpace and SilverGlo have made in this crawl space. The CleanSpace provides as a mold and vapor barrier, while keeping the crawl space clean. The SilverGlo will insulate the crawl space, keeping the floors warm in the winter. The CleanSpace also really brightens up the crawl space, making it much easier for the homeowner to access when needed.
Our CleanSpace walls were used to create a vapor barrier for this homeowner's crawlspace. Not only do the walls block out moisture, but they also block out bugs, critters, and the cold air. A crawlspace should be treated as an extension of your home, since it contains the air that will eventually be pulled to your living space.
